Where Are They Now
Our interns are special people. Although they are with us for a short time, they are integral to HealthStart’s success. As such they have a special place in our hearts and on our website. As of August 2010, we’ll be posting information on our former interns so you’ll know what they’re up to after HealthStart. Hopefully this isn’t the last we’ll hear from them!
Date Interned: Fall 2010
Kellie will reside in Austin where she plans to apply the experience she gained as Communications Intern at HealthStart to her budding career. She will also continue to tutor the SAT, helping students tackle the test and reach their academic goals. Kellie firmly believes in HealthStart's mission and hopes that health and wellness will remain a cornerstone of her life, both professionally and personally.

Johanna will continue to pursue her Master's of Public Health degree at the University of Texas School of Public Health with a slight break for the birth of her second child in April 2011. Upon graduation she hopes to become involved in early childhood nutrition education and obesity prevention in the non-profit sector.
Kelly is completing her Masters in Public Health at the University of Texas School of Public Health.  She is primarily focused on health education for adolescents at a national and international level.

She is currently working on a Young Leaders For Healthy Change Program through ACTIVE Life and on the Coordinated Approach To Childhood Health program in Austin, TX. Upon completion of her degree, Kelly hopes to work as an administrator in education and will continue to be an advocate for integrating health education back into the classroom.
Rachel is continuing work for the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas, helping with communications and stewardship at the school. She is also devoting more time to illustration and comic efforts, and hopes to continue the self-published works she's begun in the past year.

Spring 2011
Alice is a recent graduate from UT Austin with a concentration in Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics. Her passions include eating healthy (and deliciously!) and staying active. She hopes to share these passions and her background in non-profit organizations with the HealthStart team.

Alice hails from Houston, where she loves to eat at the extensive Chinatown available there. She also has recently taught her dog to 'bang-bang! play dead!', but her little Bishon still twitches her legs in the air when there's a treat involved.
Catherine Harper is a senior at Texas State University with a major in public relations and a minor in business. She hopes to use her attention to detail and passion for creativity to spread a unique and compelling message for the team at HealthStart.

Catherine lived in Scotland for 3 years when she was a child, which shaped one of her first memories of being hit in the eye with a snowball. She then moved to Katy, Texas, where she grew up. When Catherine isn’t writing and creating, she enjoys playing the piano, thrift shopping, cooking with fresh ingredients, and enjoying nature.
Date Interned: Summer 2010

Erin is still pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin. After completing her first semester of Advanced Design, she’s very excited to begin applying to the Professional Residency program. She hopes to find a new city to work in and explore. While she’s not in class, Erin works at the AT&T Conference Center on campus. Despite her busy load, she also like to go back to her hometown of Denver and hit the slopes on her snowboard.

Patrick is completing his Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin, with a focus on adolescent wellness, community-level interventions, and the intersection of social policy and public health.  He maintains an active presence in the Texas parkour community's leadership through teaching, mentorship, and social entrepreneurship.  The following year will see him testing for his next belt in aikido, volunteering in an HIV hospice, growing vegetables in his garden, starting up a new not-for-profit organization, and trekking the mountains and deserts of Big Bend.
