HealthStart bases its approach on five core tenets:
- Starting young
Building a foundation for a healthy and successful future begins in the formative years.
- Employing kids as health change agents
Research shows that children can have a big impact on their families’ diet and fitness habits. We give them the education, skills and tools they need to empower their whole family to be healthy.
- Engaging parents in their child’s learning
Children get to bring HEY! concepts home with parent cards that share what they have learned that day and interactive activities that help put what they have learned into action.
- Making it easy for teachers to use
HEY! uses a conversational teaching method and fun, easy activities to engage children. Our curriculum materials are simple to use and they require no formal training or education.
- Building on our community partnerships
HealthStart collaborates with local health systems and providers such as Aetna and St. David’s, nonprofits like Sustainable Food Center and The Thinkery, and individual champions to support our mission and spread our message of good health from the start.
