Lots of articles and experts have recommended that you minimize your trips to the grocery store and stock up on non perishable food items. Many of you might think that means healthy eating is out the window, but prioritizing nutritious food is both possible and extremely important in helping our bodies fight off infection.

Below are 3 tips to help you stock up during quarantine and stay healthy.

  1. Fill your pantry with non-perishable whole foods. A lot of non-perishable food is highly processed and full of sugar, but there are many whole food options that will last you just as long and keep you feeling your best. Things like dried beans, canned fish, or oats are all nutritious and versatile ingredients to have on hand.
  2. Utilize your freezer for fresh foods. You can freeze just about anything from meats to dairy to fresh fruits and vegetables. Freezing extends the life of food immensely and helps with preventing food waste. For information on how to properly freeze food check out https://www.thespruceeats.com/how-to-freeze-foods-3897631
  3. Use a grocery delivery or curbside service. If you would like to avoid visiting the grocery store all together or you are sick and can’t make it to the store, don’t forget to take advantage of services like HEB curbside pick-up and delivery service and other stores that offer curbside pick-up like Target or Walmart. https://www.heb.com/static-page/heb-curbside-delivery?searchredirect=curbsidedelivery

I like how you mentioned that having a freezing option for your food supply could help provide freshness. A couple of days ago, my best friend told me he and his friends were planning to give back to the community by providing food supplies or whatever help they would need. He asked if I had any idea what would be the best assistance option to consider. Thanks to this instructive food pantry article. I'll tell him it will be much better if they consult a food pantry foundation website as they can help them with more details and information.
