The new school year is almost upon us. There are many things that contribute to your child’s success in school. Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning are key to being successful in school, However, good health ranks in the top two for successful students. Good health is a combination of physical, emotional, and environmental health. According to author Vicki Abeles, one way to ensure your child is in good physical and emotional health is to give him time – the time to rest and keep healthy habits. You cannot overestimate the need for adequate sleep for your child’s well-being. Adequate sleep is needed to maintain attention and for remembering what you’ve learned.
A healthy environment is a supportive environment, one that is safe both physically and emotionally for your child. In school settings, this is sometimes referred to as promoting “community in schools.” Key to this teaching students how to care for others as well as themselves. HealthStart’s Curriculum, “Health Education for Youngsters! (HEY!), teaches these aspects of health and wellbeing to children as young as three.
