I love Thanksgiving because it gives me an opportunity to reflect on the previous year’s blessings and the many I have to look forward to in the coming year. One my greatest blessings is the work I get to do with HealthStart.
I get to change people’s lives for the better – every day. HealthStart helps children build a foundation for good health through our early health education programs. Sometimes the kids knock my socks off. Like the time during one children’s workshop on the brain where the kids made a “good-for-your-brain” chocolate avocado pudding. The kids looked at the avocados and said “I’m not eating that.” They tried it though, they liked it, and every kid had not one, but two servings!
I am always grateful for the time I get to spend with the smart, energetic young people who intern and volunteer with us. I stay connected with many of almost 150 interns who have helped build HealthStart. Some continue to volunteer with us, others have helped us raise funds. A surprising number say that their time with HealthStart influenced their career choices.
If I’m listing people I am grateful for I can’t overlook HealthStart’s Board of Directors and staff. Their commitment to our mission and belief in our potential is my inspiration.
Finally, I am grateful to each and every one of you who supports HealthStart throughout the year. You make it possible for us to offer our health education programs, you sustain us, you are helping set the foundation for a healthier future for our community.
