Unit 3: Meet Your Circulatory System Teacher's Guide & Resource Materials

Students will understand that the exchange of fresh oxygen and nutrients for waste and toxins help keep them healthy. Students will learn the body’s lymph system works to remove things that can cause illness from the body. They will identify foods and exercises that help the heart, lungs, and lymphatic system work well.

Chapter 1: In the Flow
Students will understand that the body contains several systems for exchanging fresh oxygen and nutrients for toxins and waste. They will identify the function of the heart, lungs and the lymphatic system.
Chapter 2: Meet your Heart and Lungs
Students will identify the parts of the heart and lungs. They will trace the path blood makes through the heart. They will understand that the nutrients from food feed the cells in the body.
Chapter 3: Lymph - The Sanitation Crew
Students will understand how the lymphatic system cleans the blood and rids it of toxins, germs and waste. They will learn that movement is required for the body’s lymph system to remove things that can cause illness from the body.
Chapter 4: A Healthy Start for the Circulatory System
Students will understand which exercises promote healthy hearts, lungs, and lymphatic systems. They will identify foods that help the heart, lungs, and lymphatic system work well.
Questions children should be able to answer
1. Why is it important to take care of your circulatory system?
2. What does your heart do? Your lungs? Your lymphatic system?
3. What do you need to do for your lymphatic system to work?
4. Name 3 or more foods that are good for your circulatory system.
5. Name 3 or more exercises you can do that help make your heart, lungs and lymphatic system work well.
