Students will understand that access to healthy food, shelter and clothing impacts health. They will learn that all these things come from dirt. Students will understand the role the seven continents play in how people live, their resources, and their cultural values. They will identify soil layers and understand how everything we have comes from dirt. Chapter 2: The Many Layered Earth Students will identify layers of the Earth. They will understand where land came from and identify the process through which rock and soil come into being (weathering, erosion, deposition). Chapter 3: Land Ho Students will identify different landforms: island/lake, peninsula/bay, strait/isthmus. They will identify different climates: desert, rainforest, plains and mountains. They will understand how different areas support living things in different ways. Chapter 4: Seven Continents Students will identify the seven continents. Students will understand the connection between environment and culture. They will identify ways they can take care of the land they live on. They will understand that what they do here can take care of far away environments as well. |
